Ladybird : Read It Yourself website
'Read it yourself' is Ladybird's series of popular, traditional tales written in a simple way for children who are learning to read. An associated website has been produced to promote the series, featuring interactive games, quizzes and videos. It promises to be an exciting interactive experience for children and an educational resource for parents and teachers.
Our Solution
ico’s involvement in the project came through our work for Penguin’s ‘We Make Stories’ website. Ladybird were inspired by the interactive story games and saw the potential for their own project.
The site works as a full stand-alone experience, but one that compliments the main Ladybird website. Our aim, in visual terms, was to build a fairy tale world through imaginative use of the illustrations from the books, populating the interface with characters from the stories. And, with a younger audience in mind, we made it a rich sensory experience with sound effects and playful animations.
Technically, the site features several interactive components including video players, quiz forms, data capture, downloadable elements and links, but the site is designed to be child’s play to navigate and operate.
