These innovative interactive modules bring the art of storytelling to life. By utilising digital media and computer gaming vernacular, youngsters are stimulated to read and make their own stories through play. The technology also allows users to print out or email their masterpieces to friends. The elaborate use of whimsical illustrations and fun animations brings the modules to life and all this work was carried out in-house by ico. We also undertook a key copywriting role, working with Penguin's own writers to help to build the themes and engage with the audience. In fact, ico was instrumental in devising the content of all three modules.

As part of the testing phase, eight children between the ages of 7 and 11 were asked to use the site and write a review. Here are some of their comments:

"We Make Stories is a brilliant website for kids, with a comic strip maker and a story for older kids where you can choose the characters and settings which is really fun."

"The comic story was amazing (and my favourite) because you didn't only make up a story but made up your own characters too. You chose your own background and could add speech bubbles and other images like a football, a cake or words like 'Bang' and 'Zoom'. I really loved making up my own characters."
