Penguin : Telling Tales game
Our first collaboration with Penguin is a collection of interactive online tools for children designed to inspire and encourage literacy, creativity and storytelling skills. ico has created three online modules for the website 'We make stories' for Puffin books. 'Telling Tales' introduces children to the principles involved in creating a story by guiding them through a series of plot choices. Charming characters, amusing animations and sound effects make the experience an engaging one.
Our Solution
These innovative interactive modules bring the art of storytelling to life. By utilising digital media and computer gaming vernacular, youngsters are stimulated to read and make their own stories through play. The technology also allows users to print out or email their masterpieces to friends. The elaborate use of whimsical illustrations and fun animations brings the modules to life and all this work was carried out in-house by ico. We also undertook a key copywriting role, working with Penguin's own writers to help to build the themes and engage with the audience. In fact, ico was instrumental in devising the content of all three modules.
As part of the testing phase, eight children between the ages of 7 and 11 were asked to use the site and write a review. Here are some of their comments:
