Science Museum : atmosphere... exploring climate science

Our interactive experiences help unlock the conundrum of climate change at the Science Museum's new gallery. They are perhaps best summarised by the Director of the Museum at the time, Professor Chris Rapley, "ico have contributed significantly to the success of (the gallery). I have been truly impressed by their grasp of the messages to be conveyed and the elegance, simplicity, insight and wit of their visualisations in the Climate Science Info Zones."

Our Solution

Our role involved the creation of two sets of interactive installations, Find Out More (FOM) and Tell Us What You Think (TELL), as well as a series of Computer Information Point (CIP) kiosks that tell the story behind featured exhibits.

FOM installations help visitors interpret the objects they see through a touchscreen interface. Animated stories bring the scientific information to life. FOM has also been translated into an online experience which will feature on the Science Museum website. The TELL installations are based around user-generated content of video and the written word. They provide an interactive mouthpiece for visitors, allowing them to make comments and open discussions on the exhibits that capture their imagination.

Collaborating with the museum's exhibition content team, we carefully dissected the wealth of in-depth content to make a valuable educational experience that was also fun, engaging and easily accessible. The project involved the creation of a staggering 70+ animations and interactive elements. These are delivered in a dynamic interconnected flash interface and then redesigned to create a cross platform web experience.
