The Science Of... : ... Survival Future City interactive installation

The Science of Survival exhibition is a fun and futuristic interactive experience based around environmental issues. It launched at Science Museum in April 2008 and will tour the world for three years. ico were the lead design agency on the project and a key part of our role was to create the overall brand and design the exhibition graphics.

Our Solution

The interactive elements of the exhibition are controlled by an RFID system, each visitor has a personal card that gives them access to the installations and records their results. Positioned at the end of the exhibition, the ‘Your Future’ installation is an interactive scrapbook of the visitor’s journey, which has been recorded on the RFID cards. Scores and choices are reviewed and commented on, and from their results in the ‘Your Future’ interactives, visitors can finally see the district they have created in the ‘Future City’ of 2050. The entire ‘Future City’ is then constructed digitally on an large screen, as the ultimate conclusion to the exhibition.
