Wellcome Trust : Wellcome Collection online exhibits
The Wellcome Collection is a major new public venue for London. Having just completed their website, we were asked to design an interface for the online exhibits section. But first, we had to help them generate content. We solved this by organising a global competition for up and coming web designers.
Our Solution
To facilitate the competition we worked with design events collective BD4D, using their international database of students and young web designers.
The brief was to create a highly creative, playful and engaging interactive Flash exhibit, inspired by the Wellcome Collection’s word soup that covers the themes of medicine and art. Prizes of an Apple MacPro, Mac Book Pro and iPod Nanos encouraged a large number of entries and some diverse and inventive interpretations.
The competition concluded in launch and prize-giving event, hosted by Design Week Editor Lynda Relph Knight.
Other online content included off-the-cuff art pieces created by visitors to the Collection galleries. Our interface is an intriguing interactive portal that uses the words as a way in to discover the exhibts.
