Wieden + Kennedy London : Timetable

ico, in collaboration with Sidekick Studios, have invented and produced an innovative interactive meeting table. Timetable is an original concept in office furniture design, where creative electronics brings a mundane item to life and gives it fresh purpose.

Our Solution

Creatives at Wieden and Kennedy UK had an idea that intelligent furniture might somehow improve the quality of meetings. The brief was to invent a meeting room table that was more than just something to put your coffee on. TimeTable is the stunning result.

TimeTable helps meeting participants better manage their meetings by instilling a shared awareness of the passing time. It controls the meeting in an elegant and unobtrusive manner. A simple twist of a dial sets the length of the meeting at the start and a recorded voice announces, “Welcome to TimeTable”. Then ten illuminated panels appear in the surface of the table, each panel representing a tenth of the meeting time. As the time passes, panels are switched off and a sound effect is played, and once the allotted meeting time has elapsed TimeTable politely informs attendees “This meeting is now complete, please leave the room in an orderly fashion”.

The TimeTable is now up and running in Wieden + Kennedy’s new space, Platform, in Hanbury Street, East London.

Timetable runs on an open-source electronics platform called Arduino. To control the RGB LEDs It uses the excellent DMX Simple library by Peter Knight and bespoke DMX units from White Wing.
